From the wide range of Ilex, or Holly, we grow a limited number of varieties. From the large-leaved varieties, we strive towards varieties that are suitable for forming a rachis on their own roots, suitable for growing stems. The ornamental value can come from the colour of the leaves and/or bearing of berries in the autumn.
In addition to the small-leaved or crenata types, we are planning to focus on the variety Ilex crenata 'Caroline Upright'. This is a fast growing, winter hardy bushy variety that is suitable as hedges and clipping of shapes such as spheres, pyramids and suchlike.
